2. Choosing by Colour
Often, the first thing that draws us to a stone is simply its colour — before meaning or symbolism even enters the picture.
- Play-of-Colour / Iridescent — Opal / Moonstone / Mother of Pearl
- Blues — Aquamarine / Blue Topaz / Lapis Lazuli
- Purples — Amethyst / Lavender Quartz / Ametrine
- Pinks — Rose Quartz / Pink Opal
- Blacks — Onyx / Black Garnet
- White / Milky White — Pearl
3. Birthstones & Zodiac Signs (Reference)
Birthstones and zodiac stones don't always line up one-to-one. Birthstones are based on the month you were born, while zodiac signs follow a date range that crosses month boundaries. Keeping these two separate makes it easier to browse without confusion.
Birthstones by Month (commonly used classification in Japan)
* Some months have multiple birthstones depending on tradition or region.
* April's most widely recognised birthstone is Diamond, though Clear Quartz is sometimes listed as an alternative.
Stones by Zodiac Sign (Reference)
There are several different traditions for zodiac stones. The following is offered as one example.
Birthstones and zodiac associations are simply reference points — a way to open up your options. Choosing based on colour, texture, or how a piece feels to you right now is just as valid a way to choose.
Stones by Element

Elemental associations are not meant to define you — they're simply another lens for exploring what feels right at a given moment. As always, going with what you're instinctively drawn to is a perfectly natural way to choose.
Blood Type & Natural Stones
There is no scientific or historical direct link between blood type and natural stones. That said, if you use blood type personality traits as a loose reference point, the following groupings may offer a useful starting point.
Treat these as a light reference for organising your own preferences — nothing more.

Close to eye level, a necklace makes the colour and clarity of the stone easy to appreciate. It's often where a stone's character comes through most clearly — adding quiet presence even to simple outfits.
As a gift, necklaces are one of the safer choices when you're not sure whether the recipient has pierced ears. Versatile enough for everyday wear and special occasions alike.
Movement and light bring natural stones to life in earrings. Even a small stone catches attention near the face — its colour and play-of-light leaving a gentle impression on the whole look.
Easy to mix and match with different outfits, earrings are ideal for both everyday wear and moments when you want to feel a little more put-together.
Curated pairings — a necklace and earrings together, for example — where the balance of colour and proportion has already been considered for you. An approachable choice if you're new to natural stone jewellery.
Also a thoughtful option for gifts where a sense of cohesion and completeness matters.

About the Materials
Why We Use 925 Silver as Our Base
Every SMUK natural stone piece is built on a foundation of 925 silver. We chose it specifically because it doesn't compete with the stone — it lets each stone's colour and character come through clearly.
- A quiet, refined shine that doesn't overpower
- Durable enough for everyday wear
- A texture that softens and settles with time
- Relatively low skin irritation — thoughtfully considered for those with metal sensitivities
Rhodium (Platinum-tone) Plating
While 925 silver is beautiful on its own, some pieces are plated to suit their design or intended use.
- Resists tarnishing, maintaining a bright and clear silver tone
- A harder surface that holds up well in daily wear
- Brings out the sharpness and vibrancy of natural stones
18K Gold Plating
- Adds warmth and depth while keeping the lightness of silver
- Sits comfortably against the skin, giving outfits a softer feel
- Creates a richer, more layered effect alongside natural stones
Neither plating replaces the metal itself — 925 silver remains the base. Plating will gradually wear with use, but when it does, the surface simply returns to its original silver. The material itself does not change.
If silver is the everyday, natural stones are the variation — the personal touch.
Together, they create something you can wear without self-consciousness, while still feeling like yourself.
A Final Note
Categories and classifications are tools — not rules. They're here to make choosing easier, not to tell you what's right or wrong. In the end, the only reason you need is: does this feel right for me, right now?
