What Is Moonstone
A Pale Blue Shimmer Living Within the Stone
Moonstone belongs to the feldspar mineral group. Its most defining characteristic is a phenomenon known as "adularescence" — a floating, bluish-white glow that appears to drift within the transparent stone. This is a natural optical effect created by light scattering through thin, stacked layers inside the stone.

The glow shifts and changes with every angle of light, as if moonlight is filtering in from somewhere deep within. The high clarity of the stone, and the blue light suspended inside it — each stone has its own character, and no two are ever exactly alike.
History & Legend
The Legend That Moonlight Solidified Into Stone
The ancient Romans believed moonstone was formed from solidified moonlight, revering it as a sacred gem dedicated to Luna, goddess of the moon. In India, it has been known since antiquity as "Chandrakanta" — meaning stone of the moon — and has long been cherished as a sacred stone.

During the Art Nouveau era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, artists including René Lalique incorporated moonstone into jewellery and decorative arts. Its ethereal, blue-white glow has continued to captivate people across the ages.
Meaning & Symbolism
A Stone That Symbolises New Beginnings
Moonstone has long been known as "the stone of new beginnings." Just as the moon waxes and wanes through its cycles, it is said to symbolise change, renewal, and growth — often chosen by those taking a first step toward something new.

It also carries a history as a talisman for travellers. Since ancient times, those setting off on long journeys are said to have worn moonstone as a charm for safe passage. Regarded as a symbol of intuition, sensitivity, and feminine energy, it has been loved as an amulet across the world.
Birthstone & Zodiac
Moonstone is recognised worldwide as one of the birthstones for June. It is said to share a particularly deep bond with Cancer, ruled by the moon — resonating with the sign's sensitive nature and attunement to cycles.
