About SMUK
SMUK is a lifestyle brand co-founded by myself, originally from Taiwan, and a friend from Singapore.
Why is SMUK based in Japan?
The reason goes back to 2018, when I took an 18-month leave of absence from a company in Singapore and spent my time in Tokyo to study the Japanese language.
Toward the end of that stay, I began to feel a desire to preserve my experiences in Japan in some meaningful form.
As I had always enjoyed making handmade jewelry, this eventually led me to establish SMUK in 2019.
My friend in Singapore resonated deeply with this idea, and together we planned and launched the brand.
Shortly after the launch, SMUK was unexpectedly affected by the global outbreak of COVID-19.
As lockdowns were enforced around the world and international flights were halted,
our business—initially shipping products from Singapore—faced major challenges.
Even so, the warm support from customers in Japan allowed us to survive those difficult times.
We remain truly grateful.
In July 2023, SMUK was officially incorporated as a company in Japan.
At SMUK, we focus on jewelry made with natural materials such as 925 silver and solid gold.
We want to offer accessories that are not only beautiful and valuable, but long-lasting and recyclable.
For this reason, we do not produce jewelry made of brass or surgical stainless steel.
Regardless of whether someone has allergies or not, we believe deeply that jewelry should be both visually beautiful and gentle on the body.
Our website also features many hand-drawn illustrations.
Drawing has always been one of my hobbies, but more than that, I want visitors to feel a sense of human warmth in a world where everything is online and intangible.
These illustrations also express the beautiful landscapes of our world, as well as our ongoing commitment to protecting the marine environment.
