Polishing Cloth Usage – Silver Care Tips & Cautions
Silver 925 Polishing Cloth
Gently Restore the Shine
A Polishing Cloth Made for Silver 925
Silver 925 (sterling silver) naturally tarnishes over time through contact with air, sweat, and daily wear. This is a normal characteristic of the material — not a sign of poor quality. This polishing cloth is designed to gently remove that oxidation layer and restore the original lustre of your silver pieces with minimal effort.
A gentle wipe.
The shine comes back.
How to Use the Polishing Cloth
- First, remove any surface dust or dirt with a clean, soft cloth
- Using the polishing cloth, gently buff the tarnished areas in small circular motions
- Once the shine is restored, give a final wipe with a dry cloth to finish
- Use a light touch — there is no need to press hard
- For chain necklaces, fold the cloth around the chain and draw it through gently
- The cloth will darken with use — this is normal and expected; it does not need to be washed
This polishing cloth is designed for use on unplated silver 925 (sterling silver) only. It is suitable for silver 925 necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets that have no surface coating applied.
Do Not Use on Plated Pieces
Please do not use this cloth on pieces with 14K gold plating, 18K gold plating, rhodium plating, or any other surface coating. The polishing compounds in the cloth will accelerate the wear of the plating layer, significantly shortening the life of the finish.
SMUK jewellery comes in two types: unplated silver 925, and plated pieces (gold plating or rhodium plating). Please check the product page for your specific item before using this cloth, and reserve it for silver 925 pieces only.
- Safe to use: Unplated silver 925 items
- Do not use: Items with gold plating or rhodium plating
- For plated pieces, a gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth is all that's needed
