What Is Morganite? Color, Meaning & the Beauty of Unheated Pink
A Soft, Pink Light — Morganite
Color · History · Meaning · Collection

A translucent, gentle pink. Morganite belongs to the beryl family — the same mineral group as emerald and aquamarine — and owes its soft pink-to-peach color to traces of manganese. From the story behind its name to the secret of its color and the collection itself, here is an honest introduction.
See it in motion
What is Morganite
A member of the beryl family, in soft pink
Morganite belongs to the same beryl family as emerald (green) and aquamarine (blue). Trace amounts of manganese give it soft shades of pink, peach, and salmon. Its translucent, delicate color sits gently against the skin, and at Mohs hardness 7.5–8 it is well suited to everyday wear.

The Story of Its Name
A stone named after a great collector
Morganite was first found in Madagascar in 1910 as "pink beryl." It was later named morganite by George Kunz, the gemologist for Tiffany & Co., in honor of the renowned gem collector J.P. Morgan. A relatively recently named stone — yet its gentle color has drawn admirers across the years.

On the Color, Honestly
This pink is a natural, unheated color
Most morganite on the market is heated to reduce yellow tones and bring out the pink — a common and stable method. SMUK's morganite, on the other hand, is unheated: we deliver the soft, natural pink exactly as the stone holds it.
We believe in sharing the presence or absence of treatments, and the story of each stone, openly. We hope that knowing a stone's background lets you wear it with confidence, for a long time to come.
Meaning & Symbolism
A stone of love and tenderness
With its soft pink hue, morganite has long been cherished as a stone of "love" and "tenderness." As a color that speaks to calm, caring feelings, it is chosen as a gift to oneself as much as to someone dear.
