Ethiopian opal is formed inside beds of volcanic silica rock, where rainwater seeps through the earth over thousands of years and deposits silica in the cavities it finds. The silica builds up in layers so fine that they diffract visible light — producing the play-of-colour that makes opal unlike any other stone. The same stone can appear blue in one moment, green the next, and orange when the light shifts again.
Long regarded as a stone of hope, positivity and inspiration, opal is said to sharpen intuition, encourage creativity and give the wearer the confidence to move forward through change. As the October birthstone, it carries a particular resonance for Scorpio and Libra — signs associated with transformation and the search for balance.
Materials & Finish
The fine and thick chains feature different-sized lobster clasps, each matched to the weight of its respective chain. Both are crafted from Italian sterling silver 925.

Rhodium Plating

At SMUK, we use four types of plating finishes, each selected to suit the design and materials of the piece.
Rhodium Plating — A rare platinum-group metal. Tarnish and scratch resistant, with a bright, clear silver tone. Gentle on sensitive skin.
18K Gold Plating — 75% fine gold over sterling silver. Warm, deep gold color that flatters all skin tones.
14K White Gold Plating — 58.3% fine gold with a soft, cool white tone. Pairs beautifully with pearls and delicate designs.
Gold Vermeil — Sterling silver (925) base with a gold layer 2.5+ microns thick. More durable than standard plating with a longer-lasting shine.
