1. Common meanings of natural stones

The following does not claim any spiritual effect. It organises the symbolic meanings long told through history and culture, in a way that's easy to grasp in everyday terms.
- Opal|Change / sensitivity / intuition
- Aquamarine|Calm / clarity / communication
- Moonstone|Rhythm / the inner self / gentle emotion
- Amethyst|Focus / calm / clearing the mind

- Pearl|Harmony / grace / inner stability
- Mother of Pearl|Nurturing / gentleness / emotional balance
- Lapis Lazuli|Intellect / judgement / seeing the essence

2. Choosing by colour

Before meaning, it's often colour that draws us in first.
- Play-of-colour / shifting light: Opal / Moonstone / Mother of Pearl
- Blue: Aquamarine / Blue Topaz / Lapis Lazuli
- Purple: Amethyst / Lavender Quartz / Ametrine
- Pink: Rose Quartz / Pink Opal
- Black: Onyx / Black Garnet
- Milky / white: Pearl
3. Birth month & zodiac (reference)

Birthstones and zodiac signs don't always map one-to-one. Birth month is classified by the month you were born; the zodiac by a period based on your date of birth. Because the zodiac crosses months, considering them separately keeps things clear.
■ Birthstones by month (the classification commonly used in Japan)
※ For some months, several birthstones exist depending on region and era.
※ April is most commonly Diamond, though Clear Quartz is sometimes introduced for cultural reasons.
■ Birthstones by zodiac sign (reference)
Zodiac birthstones vary between sources. Here is one way of organising them.
Birth month and zodiac are just reference points to widen your options. Prioritising the colour, the texture, and whether a stone suits your current style or mood is also a natural way to choose.

Close to the line of sight, a necklace makes it easy to enjoy the colour and clarity of a stone. The stone's character shows most clearly, adding natural presence even to a simple outfit. As a gift, it's relatively safe to choose even when you're unsure whether the recipient has pierced ears — and it works for both everyday and special occasions.
With movement and light, the stone's expression shifts subtly. Close to the face, even a small size leaves an impression of colour and play-of-colour, adding a light accent to your whole look. From everyday wear to days when you want a change of mood, they adapt to your style.
Sets — such as a necklace and earrings — are combined with the overall balance in mind. Because the colour and volume are already coordinated, they're easy to wear without hesitation, and a great starting point if natural stone jewellery is new to you. Ideal, too, for a gift you'd like to feel pulled-together.

Why we choose Silver 925 as the base
SMUK's natural stone series is built entirely on Silver 925. We chose it as a base that doesn't compete with the colour and expression of the stone, but properly draws out the character each one holds.
- A calm shine that never over-asserts
- Stable and suited to everyday wear
- A texture that settles in the more you wear it
- Relatively gentle on the skin, designed with metal allergies in mind
Rhodium (platinum-group) plating
Silver 925 is beautiful as it is, but depending on the use and design, we sometimes apply a plating finish to the surface.
- Helps prevent tarnish and keeps a bright, clear silver tone
- High surface hardness, stable for everyday wear
- Sharpens and enhances the colour of the stone
- Keeps the lightness of silver while adding a warm tone
- Sits naturally on the skin, lending a softer impression
- Creates depth when paired with the colour of a stone
Neither plating replaces the material itself with a different metal. With frequency of use and handling, it fades gradually over time — but once it wears, it simply returns to the original Silver 925; the material itself does not change in nature.

If silver is the "everyday," natural stones are "change" and "individuality."
This pairing keeps just the right distance — easy to wear, while still keeping what's uniquely you.
In closing
Classification isn't about deciding the right answer. It's a tool to make choosing easier; in the end, the only reason that matters is whether it feels right for you now.
We hope natural stone jewellery becomes something that quietly centres you in everyday life.
