Polishing Cloth Usage – Silver Care Tips & Cautions
Silver 925 Polishing Cloth
Gently wipe away dullness & tarnish
A cloth made for Silver 925
Silver 925 (sterling silver) can tarnish and darken at the surface as it meets air, sweat and sebum. This is a natural change in the material, not a quality issue. This cloth is designed to gently remove that layer of tarnish and restore the original shine.
Just a gentle wipe, and the original shine returns.
How to use
- Lightly wipe away dust and dirt from the surface with a dry, soft cloth.
- Gently polish the dull areas with the cloth, in small circular motions.
- Once the shine returns, finish with a dry cloth.
- Use a gentle touch — don't press too hard.
- For chains, pinch the cloth around them and gently draw them through.
- The cloth turns black with use — this is normal (no need to wash it; keep using as is).
This cloth is only for un-plated pure silver such as Silver 925 (sterling silver). Use it on Silver 925 necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets.
Do not use on plated items
Please do not use it on plated jewellery such as 14K gold, 18K gold or rhodium plating. The abrasive in the cloth wears the plating away faster and shortens the life of the piece.
SMUK jewellery comes in two kinds: "Silver 925" and "plated items" (gold plating / rhodium plating). Check the material on the product page before using, and use this cloth on Silver 925 only.
- Safe for the cloth: Silver 925 (un-plated) items
- Do NOT use the cloth on: gold-plated or rhodium-plated items
- For plated items, simply wipe lightly with a soft cloth.
